National Homelessness Law Center stands in solidarity with the Southern Poverty Law Center
(WASHINGTON, D.C – April 22nd, 2026)
Last night, the U.S. Department of Justice launched the next wave of an unprecedented attack on the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The National Homelessness Law Center stands in solidarity with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in their work to combat white supremacy, hate, and all forms of oppression. We are honored to work with the SPLC in our shared work to fight for the rights of people experiencing homelessness.
Let us be clear: this attack on the SPLC, like the Trump administration's attack on the rights of homeless people, is straight from the authoritarian playbook. They are attacking civil rights organizations in an attempt to whitewash American history. For more than 50 years, SPLC has fought the Klan, Christian Nationalism, and all forms of hate and bigotry. The work of SPLC has made us all safer and has saved lives.
This indictment of SPLC is a thinly veiled attempt to target civil rights organizations fighting against Trump's attacks on Black people, people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, women, homeless people, poor people, and people with disabilities.
The Trump Administration is attacking SPLC because it represents its biggest fear: a broad, multiracial democracy where all people are free to live, love, vote, and simply be themselves and where everybody has the housing and support they need to thrive.
We won't let them win.
